My name is Sarah Kasman I am a Senior Marketing Pursuits Specialist. I have been with Swinerton for two years.
Professional Journey
My journey with Swinerton has given me an invaluable amount of knowledge and experience already. The past two years have allowed me to take ownership over my work in a way that I haven’t experienced before, and I feel more and more proud of what I produce and confident in my ability to help lead pursuits.
Pursuing Career in Construction
I started my career in editorial book publishing, so the idea of working in the construction industry was not something I even fathomed at the time. But, after a pivot to an architecture firm, I loved the creative work I could do as a marketer while also being able to utilize my editing background. When the opportunity to join Swinerton arose, I was excited to continue my work in the AEC industry with a company that I felt I could be with for a long time and that would help me grow.
Roles and Responsibilities
In my current role, I lead the marketing efforts for the New York Division. I spend much of my time spearheading and creating proposals, and I also work on communications, events, and business development efforts with my colleagues. My main job is to help the team win the projects, but once a project is underway or completed, I help to publicize our amazing work and our team members, and I also work with our project teams to get our project data in top shape.
Challenges and Triumphs
Being in a newer division is exciting but challenging—knowing what clients want to see in proposals (or don’t want to see) has been a fun and creative challenge. I love working with our tight-knit team, which has allowed me to know the ins and outs of our projects. However, as we expand and grow, the challenge will be to keep up with that same level of intimate knowledge and relationships, while also balancing the increase in pursuit work! I’m proud of the way I’ve been able to put out work that is specific to our market and team ethos, while also closely honoring the national story that is Swinerton, and the standards that go with it.
Advice for Aspiring Professionals
The advice I’d give is to be prepared to learn more than what you bargained for! All teams—administrative or field–collaborate in some way and, to an extent, require knowledge of each other’s work and priorities to be successful.
Professional Growth
Swinerton has given me autonomy in a way I haven’t had before. This kind of ownership over my work has given me so many opportunities to problem solve and learn, which has allowed me to excel. And it has given me the skillset and confidence that I need to achieve my long-term professional goals.
