A Journey of Discovery: Finding My Passion in Construction

After pursuing Civil Engineering at UC Davis, I realized that my heart lay not in design but in construction. The allure of seeing a project evolve from inception to completion, collaborating with diverse stakeholders, and witnessing tangible results drew me to the world of General Contracting. During my junior year, I had the privilege of working on the Coastal Biology building at UC Santa Cruz, where I was captivated by the passion and camaraderie of the Swinerton team. Their dedication to their craft and the vibrant atmosphere on the jobsite convinced me to join Swinerton full-time.

Role and Responsibilities: Guiding Projects to Success

As a Project Manager, my role revolves around ensuring the overall success of our projects. From financial management to resolving day-to-day challenges, I work tirelessly to keep the project team aligned, organized, and focused on exceeding client expectations. Every roadblock is an opportunity for innovation, and every milestone achieved brings us closer to our goal.

Challenges and Triumphs: Celebrating Resilience and Achievement

Overseeing my current project, from its inception to near completion, has been a journey filled with challenges and triumphs. Despite facing procurement issues, vocal end-users, and unpredictable weather, our all-women GC project team has navigated every obstacle gracefully and determinedly. Watching the mass timber rise and witnessing the project take shape has been one of the proudest moments of my career.

Advice for Aspiring Professionals: Embrace Your Potential

To young women considering a career in construction, I offer this advice: never underestimate your abilities. Imposter syndrome may try to hold you back, but don’t let it define you. Seek feedback, embrace challenges, and never hesitate to ask for more responsibility. At Swinerton, I’ve been fortunate to have mentors and managers who have believed in me, pushing me to reach new heights even when I doubted myself.
