Kasandra Foley, Craft Services Supervisor

I’m Kasandra Foley, the Craft Services Supervisor at Swinerton, spanning nearly six years.

A Serendipitous Entry into Construction

After graduating from Chico State with aspirations of becoming a large animal veterinarian, I sought a break from academia. Little did I know this hiatus would lead me to discover my passion for the construction industry. Upon my return to the Bay Area, I stumbled upon an opportunity with an insulation subcontractor, where I delved headfirst into the construction world. My appreciation for the industry grew daily, and I knew I had found my calling.

The next chapter of my journey unfolded when I heard about an exciting opportunity with Swinerton, pioneering a new role that redefined how HR and support services were administered for field employees. Eager to embark on a new adventure, I accepted the position of Craft Services Administrator based out of the San Francisco office. Since then, I’ve transitioned into the role of Craft Services Supervisor, overseeing our dedicated team of HR administrators and analysts across the country.

Supporting Craft Excellence: Role and Responsibilities

In my current capacity, I play a pivotal role in supporting and supervising our Craft HR Administrator and HR Analyst team. While my days are often filled with meetings, I relish collaborating with our local HR administrators, analysts, and operations partners. From crafting efficient onboarding processes to auditing payroll and providing general support to our Craft workforce, my role is diverse and dynamic, presenting new challenges and opportunities for growth each day.

Navigating Challenges and Celebrating Achievements

One of the most significant challenges my team and I face is balancing compliance and field expectations. In an industry characterized by rapid technological advancements and evolving operational practices, we are constantly challenged to adapt and streamline our processes while upholding compliance standards to safeguard the business.

Despite the challenges, we’ve achieved remarkable triumphs by embracing innovation and collaboration. A recent milestone includes establishing a nationwide safety certification tracking project to standardize certification processes across divisions. By leveraging the expertise of our Safety and Workday teams, we successfully developed a unified system, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the board.

Advice for Aspiring Professionals: Embrace Change

To aspiring professionals considering a career in construction, I offer this advice: Embrace change and seize every opportunity to try something new. The construction industry has diverse opportunities, and each experience provides invaluable lessons and insights. Embrace the journey and relish the opportunities for growth and development.

Personal Touch: The Swinerton Experience

What I cherish most about working for Swinerton is the people. Swinerton has grown a culture that makes me proud to tell others that I work for Swinerton. So much so that I constantly get pictures from friends and family when they pass by a Swinerton Job site or park next to a Swinerton orange truck.

Outside of my role at Swinerton, you can find me spending time with friends, exploring new destinations, and embarking on off-road adventures with my family. My furry companions, including an Australian Shepherd and two Corgis, keep me on my toes and remind me to appreciate life’s simple joys.
