A Professional Odyssey: From Admin to Project Engineer

My journey at Swinerton began in an administrative role, but I transitioned into a Project Engineer position with determination and hard work. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to work on some remarkable projects, including a luxurious 12-story hotel and a complex mixed-use tenant parking garage and office space. What started as a career path I hadn’t envisioned has become a fulfilling and rewarding journey.

Finding Purpose in Construction

Initially, I didn’t plan on a career in construction. My passion lies in social work and community service. However, fate had other plans, and I was drawn into the dynamic construction world. It’s been a transformative experience, shaping me in ways I never imagined.

Role and Responsibilities: Navigating the Project Landscape

As a Senior Project Engineer, I play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth progress of our projects. Collaborating closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent, I coordinate with subcontractors, ensuring they are prepared to work efficiently. I aim to facilitate seamless teamwork and contribute to every project’s success.

Challenges and Triumphs: Overcoming Obstacles, Achieving Milestones

I encounter challenges and roadblocks in my role, but I’ve learned to navigate them with resilience and resourcefulness. Whenever I face hurdles, I rely on the support of my team and tap into available resources to find solutions. One particular achievement I’m proud of is leading the buildout of a city utility room, which played a vital role in achieving a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy for a project. It was a rewarding experience that showcased my capabilities as a leader in construction.

Advice for Aspiring Professionals: Embrace Change and Pursue Passion

To women considering a career in construction, I say, go for it! The industry has evolved, offering diverse opportunities for growth and fulfillment. Follow your passion, and don’t be deterred by challenges. Swinerton has supported my professional development, providing opportunities to pursue my career goals and expand my horizons.
