Lonni Grattan, Director, Strategic Communications

I’m Lonni Grattan, and I’ve been on an incredible journey with Swinerton for the past eight years and a half. 

Role and Responsibilities:

As the Director of Communications, my focus is centralizing communication efforts across all regions and affiliate companies to streamline processes, disseminate information more efficiently, and create clear, consistent messaging that aligns with the company’s overall values and goals. I lead a national communications team that maintains a cohesive brand identity across all platforms and strengthens our firm’s market presence. Swinerton’s people are already doing such great things; we are here to connect the dots and effectively promote projects, achievements, and capabilities.

Challenges and Triumphs:

In my role, I’m responsible for leading a collaborative communications team that supports the company’s business goals on a divisional, regional, and national level. Restructuring and building a team is always challenging, but I’ve had the pleasure of working with a talented team who have successfully supported Swinerton’s communications efforts over the last few years while also identifying key strategic hires to elevate our team’s expertise and impact. Supporting Swinerton’s significant growth across markets, geographies, and service offerings continues to provide a unique opportunity for our communications team to support all areas of the business from work procurement and market penetration to internal education and talent retention and acquisition.

Advice for Aspiring Professionals:

In a male-dominated industry like construction, perseverance, and excellence are your greatest allies. By delivering exceptional results, irrespective of gender, you can carve out your path to success. Embrace challenges, push boundaries, and leave no room for doubt or regret.

Personal Touch:

I love the continual challenge of working at Swinerton. I would never enjoy an easy job, and I feel I can continue to grow professionally, no matter what level. I was initially drawn to Swinerton because of the culture, and it has been so cool to help build the local culture and, in turn, hear how much that means to the team we now have in place. 

With two 12-year-olds, it feels like my interests are their interests. I am an avid reader and book nerd; I love historical fiction and read about two books a week! As long as my body can keep up, I love being active, challenging myself physically, traveling, and being outdoors.
