Peggy Napier, Administrative Services Manager

I’m Peggy, the Administrative Services Manager here in Concord, CA. It’s been quite the journey—I’ve had the privilege of being part of the Swinerton family for nearly 24 years.

Embracing Evolution: My Professional Journey

My journey at Swinerton began in 2000, providing administrative support for departments like Project Controls and Information Services, which have evolved into what we know today as BTech. Over time, my role expanded to encompass all facets of office support, eventually culminating in the position I hold today—continuously evolving to meet the changing needs of our organization.

When I first joined Swinerton, I had little to no knowledge about construction. Initially, I thought I would be out on a job site, building buildings. However, with young kids at home and the convenience of our office location, I found fulfillment right here at our headquarters.

Facilitating Success: Role and Responsibilities

In my role, I prioritize active listening to ensure that my colleagues feel heard and valued. Whether it’s meeting with a subcontractor at 6 a.m., coordinating event decorations, or ensuring we have softer paper towels in the dispenser, I strive to make everyone’s work environment a little brighter and smoother.

Contributing to my team’s success involves partnering with individuals across various departments and projects, offering my support wherever needed. By embracing opportunities to assist with departmental initiatives and projects, I’ve gained exposure to diverse experiences and continue to learn and grow alongside the company.

Navigating Challenges and Celebrating Achievements

Navigating the diverse tasks and personalities inherent in my role presents its own set of challenges. However, I embrace the diversity of people and tasks, adapting my communication style and approach to meet the needs of others. One particular achievement that stands out is our successful office move in 2019 amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic. Despite the hurdles, our team rallied together, demonstrating resilience and unity in overcoming obstacles.

Empowering Aspiring Professionals: Advice and Support

To women considering a career in construction, my advice is simple: Go for it! Construction is a field where passion, drive, and skills know no gender boundaries. There are countless opportunities for women to thrive and shatter outdated industry stereotypes. Swinerton has been instrumental in supporting my growth by encouraging continuous learning and providing diverse opportunities for development across departments.

A Personal Connection: Finding Fulfillment Beyond Work

What I cherish most about working at Swinerton is the people—the heart and soul of our organization. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some of the industry’s most kind-hearted, humble, and hard-working individuals. Their unwavering dedication and camaraderie have made every day a joy.

Outside work, you’ll often find me volunteering at my local animal shelter, fostering dogs, and practicing Reiki. When not engaging in these activities, I’m out on adventures with my kids and grandkids, making cherished memories to last a lifetime.
